  • Overview

The Pageville Plugin creates BUY and CHECKOUT button code. There are two parts to an online shopping cart: the shopping buttons on your web pages, and the shopping cart processing that creates the orders from your customers and can handle the payment processing.

The Pageville Shopping Cart Editor works with most web page design software.

    Select Shopping Cart

A Shopping Cart ID is used by Pageville to identify your shopping data from all other users' shopping data.

    Item Information

    Adding Shopping to a Webpage

Creating a shopping page is like creating any other web page, but with two requirements. The first is that you must have an image (photo or graphic) for your item (product or service) that can serve as an Add To Order button. Second, you need an image that can be used as a Review & Checkout button. See sample layout above.

Before entering your first item, you may want to establish your Preferences, which will set defaults for all of the items you will set up.

    • Add/Modify Shopping - Converting Graphics Images to Shopping Buttons
Insert an image of your product into your webpage. If you want the image itself to become the "Buy button", then select the image by single clicking. Or if you want a button image for the customer to click, insert the button image, then select the image by single clicking. This image will become your "Add to Order" or "Buy" button.

Any graphics image can serve as an add-to-order button. Some graphics images are provided with the Shopping Cart Editor. They can be found in your directory "C:\My Documents\My Pictures\pageville" unless you installed to another directory. More information on buttons is available online. Samples:

Once you have inserted and selected your shopping image, click on Pageville | Add/Modify Shopping from the menu bar. A dialog box will allow you to set up the description, price, and other information for your item. Repeat for each sales item.

    Add / Modify Shopping

The first time you use Add/Modify Shopping, you will be asked to select which shopping cart you are using and to provide your e-mail address. If you are using Pageville's Shopping Cart, the program will connect to the Pageville server and get the Shopping Cart ID. If you have multiple IDs associated with an e-mail, all the IDs will be retrieved and you must select the correct ID on the Site Settings tab.

Make sure you have the button or image selected that you want to become your buy button prior to clicking on Add / Modify Shopping.

    Item Information Tab

    • Item ID: The letters and/or numbers that you use to identify your product. Use letters, numbers and dashes (hyphens) only. No spaces permitted. For example, if you were selling furniture, your item ID might be CHutch-2D. Check or uncheck the "Taxable" box for individual items that differ from the default setting.
    • Description: The name of the product as it should appear in the shopping cart. To continue the above example, your description would be Corner Hutch with Two Doors.
    • Price: The price before any taxes or shipping. Tax and shipping charges are set up using the administration page.
    • Shipping Amount: Enter an amount if additional shipping charges apply to this product. This amount is product specific. If a flat shipping charge is used for this product, then enter 0 (zero) for Shipping Measure. Enter values for both Shipping Amount and Shipping Measure if the normal shipping charge also applies. "Shipping Amount" will not show on your website if Product Specific Shipping Charge is set to No (set using your Pageville Shopping Cart administration page).
    • Shipping Measure: The Shipping Measure is the total weight of the item, if a weight is used to determine the shipping price to be added to the order.
    • Max Qty Decimal: The MaxQtyDecimal applies if partial units of measurement are available for this product (i.e. 2.33 meters, 1.5 gallons). The value designates the number of digits to the right of the decimal point. Default is zero.
    • Frame: If your website uses frames, this field controls the frame in which the checkout will show.

OK: You must click on OK to apply the data and close the window.

Reset to Default: Sets Taxable to true, and Shipping Measure to Oz.

Cancel: Closes the window without applying the data.

    Preferences Tab

    • Shipping Measure: The weight (or other measurement) of the product used to calculate the shipping charges. Shipping unit must also be set up on the server using your Pageville Shopping Cart administration page.
    • Sales Tax: Set the sales tax default to true or false.
    • BUY Button Methods:
      • Stay Put - After clicking on a BUY button, your customers stay on that shopping page. No indication is given that they have added an item to their shopping cart unless you use a Tally Window and/or a dynamic Flash BUY button.
      • Go to Checkout - After clicking on a BUY button, your customers automatically proceed to Review and Checkout. Choose this when most customers will only purchase one item.
      • Add Pop Up - This option opens a separate pop up window, for example, a purchase confirmation message or the review and checkout screen. With this option, set the size of the pop up window. NOTE: Add Pop Up does not work with Flash buttons in Internet Explorer.
    • Quantity:
      • 1 with no edit - every time a customer clicks on a buy button, one of that item is added to the shopping cart.
      • Buyer can enter quantity. This option is only available when using Add Pop Up method. When the customer clicks on a buy button, the default quantity of that item is the input in the pop up windows and it can be edited.

    Attribute Tab

The Pageville Shopping Cart allows you to easily add attributes for each of the items you sell. For example, if you are selling shirts, your attributes might be size, color, and pattern. You will still have a single "Buy" button on your web page. When it is clicked, a selection window will open with a drop down selection list for each attribute.

Each attribute has title, method, value, description and option fields. Leave title blank to omit. Example input:

    Attributes
    • Title: The name of the attribute, for example, color or size, etc.
    • Options: The options must be separated by vertical bars, "|". Your options could be "small|medium|large"
(The vertical bar is usually found beside or below the backspace key on your keyboard.)
    • Methods:
DROPDOWN   A dropdown list shows each of the options, one can be selected.
RADIO Radio buttons allow the selection of one of the options.
CHECKBOX Checkboxes can be used to select zero or multiple options.
EDITABLE The customer can enter a quantity for an option. This quantity does not get multiplied by the price. This allow merchants to offer six-packs, etc. The buyer can select more than one of this option.
TEXTAREA This area allows buyers to enter text like an engraving message. A single text field will be displayed if the ROW is set to 1 (see Values).
    • Values: If the Method is set to TEXTAREA, then instead of "Value" you will see "ROW" and "COL". Set the number of rows and columns for the area. Set ROW to one to allow one line of text input.
The value for EDITABLE should be set to the desired text input width.
    • Description: The description is displayed above the options.

Extended attributes are also available with advanced shopping carts. Extended attributes can change the price of the item based upon the options chosen by the customer. More info

More detailed information on Special Commands

    Review and Checkout

A CHECKOUT button allows the customer to proceed to the Review and Checkout page if one or more items have been placed into the shopping cart with the BUY button(s). Normally the Checkout buttons are placed on each shopping page at the top and/or bottom of the page. Make sure you have the button or image selected that you want to become your checkout button prior to clicking on Review and Checkout Shopping. (If you don't, nothing will happen.)

    Get Orders

Access your orders by clicking on General | Get Orders. Enter your Shopping Cart ID to check for orders from your customers.

    Add Shopping Cart ID

The General | Get Shopping Cart ID selection is a shortcut to the Site Settings dialog box. Once here simply click on the Get Shopping Cart ID button to go to the online Shopping Cart Signup page.

FREE - A Shopping Cart ID simply allows you to test the shopping cart that you have set up. You can still demo the shopping cart, but in demo mode all testers use the same files. With a Shopping Cart ID, you can demo with files unique to you. The only difference with a paid shopping cart is the ability to retrieve customers' payment information. (Hey, we have to pay for all this development somehow!)

    Shopping Cart Administration

Once you have defined the web page images for your online store, you must then tell Pageville how to process your transactions.
Click on Pageville | Shopping Cart Administration to set up the following:

    • Sales Tax
    • Shipping Charges
    • Merchant Information
Enter or update store info, payment methods, e-mail addresses, links
    • Advanced Settings
        Currency types, customer codes
